Specialist factory: individual ceramic design, naturally handcrafted

Since 1869, premium ceramics have been hand-made at Gutbrod Keramik using traditional craftsmanship

Natural raw materials painstakingly processed by hand – that is our recipe for success

For a customised tile stove or fireplace with hand-crafted stove tiles, a whole series of manual working steps are needed. The basis for the production of thermal ceramics is the preparation of a special mass consisting of the natural constituents clay, grog and water. Here the decades of experience in the selection, preparation and checking of raw materials guarantees the outstanding quality of our tiles.

Each individual tile is produced and processed by hand

The different ceramic components (blanks) are produced by means of plaster moulds – either by pouring in a liquid mass or by shaping a malleable mass. Incidentally: All of the mould construction and the production of the master forms is also carried out by in-house specialists with years of experience. After removing the blanks from the working moulds, all parts are trimmed, cut to size and cleaned by hand; only in this way does the subsequent drying process result in straight, well-proportioned and symmetrical blanks with a perfect surface quality. The drying process itself must take place very carefully in order to keep warping of the material to a minimum. Once the blanks are finished, then the next step is to apply the colour. In the ceramics industry we talk about glazing. Depending on the order, the raw tiles either have glaze poured over them with specialist pouring ladles, or are sprayed by hand. Both processes require a high degree of skill and experience in order to preserve the harmonious colour across an entire ceramics order.

The complex firing process requires experience and guarantees lasting quality

The ceramic parts are fired in environmentally compatible electric kilns at over 1000 °C. In the process, the ceramic blank solidifies into a heat-resistant, unique stove ceramic.

Unique items for a home that feels warm and safe
Here the glaze also develops its particular surface and colour according to its composition. The unique appearance of our ceramic glazes is the result of decades of experience and development. This allows the expression of the intrinsic value of hand-crafted stove ceramics. After the time-consuming firing process, the stove tiles can be refined with a variety of decors or cut to size depending on what is desired. Each individual tile is checked and inspected before delivery. We place particular focus here on dimensional accuracy, flawlessness and an overall pleasing appearance of the glaze. Before the individual orders leave our production department in Gundelfingen, the tiles are packaged using sophisticated techniques to ensure safe delivery. A few days later, the ceramics are then available to the specialist tradespersons for the construction of customised tile stoves and fireplace stoves.

Ceramic – the only true material for the construction of tile stoves and fireplaces

Special ceramics for stove tiles and fireplace cladding have been unrivalled since as long as we can remember, and combine all the positive characteristics in an inimitable way.

Physical properties
The special thing about stove tiles is their ability to absorb heat, store it and then release it again gradually. The fire’s heat penetrates the tile. The tile keeps hold of it. A reserve is formed which is radiated into the environment again evenly over a period of several hours. In this way, the optimised tile material, with its moderate thermal conduction capacity, generally allows you to touch the stove without worrying.

Stable value
Ceramic stoves and fireplaces are a guarantee of a stable value over a long period of time. This doesn’t just apply to the heating unit itself, but to the valuation of the whole property.

Design freedom and individuality
Ceramic-based design in combination with handcrafted stove manufacture is always synonymous with a high degree of individuality. Whether contemporary, classic or country-style, ceramics offer an appropriate solution to every situation in the home.

Surface feel and easy maintenance
The agreeable feel of glazed ceramic surfaces is unique and unparalleled. It also comes with simple maintenance and easy cleaning.
